When Barton resurfaces in Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye is no more, replaced by the menacing Ronin. Instead, White Wolf represents Bucky's recovery and rebirth, shedding the title given to him by HYDRA. When the threat of Thanos looms, White Wolf comes out of hiding with a brand new arm and stands with the Avengers once again, but this transition is more spiritual in nature, since Bucky dresses and fights almost exactly as he did while using the Winter Soldier name. After reuniting in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Steve Rogers helps break Bucky's conditioning and the Winter Soldier becomes a force for good. Bucky secretly operated as the Winter Soldier during this period, eliminating targets such as Howard Stark without any knowledge of his despicable actions. Based in the Soviet Union, Bucky was further enhanced as a super soldier and given a shiny metal arm, before being brainwashed into doing HYDRA's bidding through a series of programmed trigger words. Assumed dead after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, Bucky survived thanks to the experiments of HYDRA and was quickly recaptured by Marvel's villainous organization. Bucky's evolution in the MCU hasn't been quite as clear-cut as his Disney+ partner's.
